Pulsating Palms

The palms of my youth,
Climb as high as the roof.
Easy to climb to the very top,
thereI would perch,
Hoping I wouldn’t flop,
So friends wouldn’t have to mourn in church.
Some even grew parallel to the ground.
I would place trinkets there to be found.
Sitting in the palm,
waiting for dad to come home.
The branches in the wind,
Pulsating they bend,
telling me he would be there soon,
to greet me while whistling a tune.
