POEM
Pete
By Janet Sherr
Pete was sweet.
All he wanted was a treat.
A peacock who colored the world,
With a tail spread big and bright .
Screeching like he was mad,
He slept in a tree for years above the home of mom and dad.
Early morning flying down,
To show his crown,
and to peck at the window,
to ask for his breakfast,
sprinkled on the sidewalk below.
He strutted the land,
His tail fanned,
to find a female,
for which he could stand,
to make a baby,
was his demand .
He returned every night to sleep in the
tree above the home of mom and dad.
All three gone now.
Mom and dad left taking a bow,
And Pete lives on,
his essence is painted now.
