POEM
By Janet Sherr

Mama’s Child

Bright and loving,
She runs shoving,
anything she can touch.

Mama please
Let me have cheese.
She would tease
And torture the cat
Who was fat.

She was always by my side,
Needing safety and with pride,
I would guide
Her to go outside.

A detective she would play,
Flashlight and backpack she would travel throughout the day.
Looking for the bad guys,
With her eyes.

As I watched her age,
She was sometimes filled with rage.

Baseball was her love
Always with her glove,
She played short stop,
A ball she would never drop.

She’s grown now,
the mother of a son,
Far away,
Our time together is done.

I miss her jokes,
The laughs we shared,
My wish for her is to know that I love her and have always cared.
To bring the love we yearn,
To heal and learn
to love again.
